After a hard day of work Devin was looking forward to doing as little as possible for as long as possible, dealing with snobbish, know-it-all clients for eight hours wasn’t exactly his idea of fun, but the fact that he could do what he loved, which was work on cars, at least made it worth while. Devin loved getting his hands dirty, because of that feeling of refreshment he experienced after taking a shower when he got home. He said goodbye to his co-workers just after handing the keys to his last job of the day over to its owner and set off towards his car, which stood parked behind the auto shop, once he reached it he got in and turned the radio on full blast before driving off toward his apartment. Even though his apartment was only a couple of blocks away Devin still drove his car to work in stead of walking, since his boss had the tendency to want to send him on errands and so forth.
The drive, at the speed Devin was going, took only about two minutes, he parked his car in the parking lot along with all the other residents of the apartment-block’s and at a lazy pace climbed the stairs to his on the second floor of the building. Once inside the impartment he proceeded to take off his oily dirty clothes, starting with his shoes, by the time he got to the bathroom he was already butt naked, holding the bundle of clothes in his hands. It took him about twenty minutes to get himself cleaned, dressed and presentable, although he was pretty exhausted from the day he wasn’t planning on staying in, so many girls, so little time.
It was not long before he was back in his car, heading toward the local café for dinner, he couldn’t party on an empty stomach, since it caused a much worse hangover the next day. Devin went out on week nights often, showing up extremely hung-over to work the next day, his boss didn’t notice though, people seemed to think his hung-over look was what he looked like all the time, since he was pretty much always hung-over or drunk. ”Hey honey, how you doing?” he greeted the waitress at the door flirtatiously once he arrived, giving her a little wink which made her cheeks turn a light rosy pink. ”H-Hey Devin.” the shy red-headed waitress said with a nervous chuckle as she led him into the café to his usual table and gave him a menu once he was seated. ”I’ll have a cup of coffee for now while I decide babe.” he said the moment the menu touched his open hand, in reply to which the girl simply nodded with a smile. As Devin waited for his coffee he browsed through the menu he already basically new by heart, he had his dinner her every other night and was considered a very important regular.

Beams of sunlight peaked through the closed blinds on the window beside Mia and stung her eyes as they slowly began opening again. She lifted her head, eyes still heavy, looking around the unfamiliar room she had stayed the previous night in, one of many of since she had arrived back in town. When she got home only two weeks before she had sworn to herself that she was turning her life around, at some point anyways, now just didn’t seem like that point. The man lying beside her clothes less and wrapped in cream colored sheets made that evidently clear. Having no place to live, no job, sometimes life threw you curve balls and you had to learn to work with them or dodge. Mia used her body, and her looks to get by, dodging as many responsibilities as she could til she ran out of options.
Brown eyes grazed over the clock on the bedside table that read 6:03pm and Mia shook her head burying her face back into the covers for a minute before forcing herself again to wake up. She had never been a day type of person, the all night partying made sure of that, and usually bedtime for Mia was around the time the sun was just coming up. Extra carefully she slid herself out of the bed trying not to wake her partner til she was on the floor and sitting cross legged rubbing her eyes fervently trying to spring back into life. The clothes she had worn the night before were in a pile on the floor beside her and the bag that carried a few of the things she had brought with when she left New York was sitting up against the wall by the bedroom door. As much alcohol as she had taken in her system over the years she was almost always lucky enough to escape a bad hangover and now her only dilemma was whether or not to try and catch a shower before slipping out the front door, or just making a run for it. Letting the cool water run over her body and clean her sticky skin, Mia opted for the quick shower before ditching the poor guy still asleep in the other room. Leaving a post it on the mirror, a thank you covered in an imprint of her lips in lipstick so she didn’t have to feel completely guilty she slipped out without ever being noticed.
A rumble of hunger shook her body as Mia drove down the main street in town reminiscing about the times she used to spend as a child living here. Better times. Children were naïve at most, they saw the world with different eyes. Things that mattered to her then were immature now, and things that mattered now, she would have never thought twice about so many years ago. What mattered most to her in that moment though was the hole in her stomach the size of Texas and she pulled up in front of the best café in town with one thing on her mind – food! The twenty she had taken off of the beside stand at the house before she left in her hand Mia anxiously made her way inside and waited patiently for the hostess who was with another customer to seat her.
The establishment was exactly how she had remembered it, quant and welcoming. The smells coming from the kitchen enough to make Mia crumble as hungry as she was, her eyes darting around the room, looking for a menu to skim over while she waited. But before a menu caught her eyes someone else did, a dark haired, good looking guy sitting across the room from where she stood. A guy she remembered quite well if her eyes did not deceive her, her excitement growing making her completely forget she was hungry at all. ”Devin?” She asked as she approached the table. Usually if you weren’t completely sure it was the person you were thinking of one might not approach a stranger, but for her even if it wasn’t him, this could be her next good time, or a place for her to stay for the night. Her shyness if she had ever been that way in the first place had disappeared years ago.

I didn’t know what I felt like eating; I wasn’t particularly hungry at the time but knew that I’d regret not eating later. Despite drinking almost every other night my body never became used to alcohol and I almost always got hung-over, the funny thing was, the less I drank, the worse the hangover would be and if I drank on an empty stomach, I got drunk way quicker than I would’ve on a full one. I was the type of guy that could drink most people under the table, I didn’t get drunk quickly and sometimes it seemed like I wasn’t drinking at all. With a sigh I put the menu down on the table, deciding that a classic cheeseburger would be my choice for the day, which is when I heard my name and looked up toward where it came from. I looked at the girl with a crooked smile and a small frown, I had no idea who she was, she looked very familiar, but I was pretty sure that if I were lucky enough to be with her in the past I would remember it, I wasn’t good with names but faces and boobs, now those were two things he remembered.
”Hey you…” I said, my mind racing to try and figure out who the girl was, where I knew her from. ”How have you been? Sit down, lemme’ buy you some dinner.” I added seconds later, not getting up, but gesturing to the seat across from me, I was no gentleman and wasn’t about to mislead her into thinking so, besides, girls swooned over me despite the fact that I was an asshole, which I didn’t understand, but was grateful for anyway. I drug my hand through my hair, flabbergasted, then looked into the mystery girls eyes for a few seconds ”My god Mia, you’ve really changed a lot.” I said once it clicked in my mind who she was, she was one of my best friends in elementary school, way back before I became the charmer I was and broke hearts as a sport. She didn’t look anything like she did now back then; she was a tall, curve-less awkward little girl, but now she was everything but awkward, she was breathtaking.
The waitress then came with my coffee and apologized for it taking so long, ”That’s okay darling, no stress.” Devin said smoothly, resting his hand on the girl’s shoulder, only for a few seconds before letting it drop back into his lap. ”I’ll have a cheeseburger, but hun, do me a favor, make sure the cook that meat properly this time… I’m no vampire.” he said once she requested his order, the waitress replied with a awkward giggle before looking toward Mia questioningly, then back at Devin ”She can have whatever she likes, it’s on me.” he said answering her silent question, for some reason this waitress was the only one who just couldn’t get used to Devin’s advances and she was the only one in the café he had not been out with, he had a feeling that she was still a virgin and virgins were something Devin would never pursue again after the last fiasco he had.

Devin greeted her without fail like he knew exactly who she was much to her surprise. As much as she had changed there wasn’t hardly anyone anymore who knew who she was when they saw her without having to give them some sort of a hint or giving up completely. Mia slid into the seat across from him slowly as she still sort of stared at him in amazement finding him here setting her purse on the floor beside her shaking her head as she spoke. “Wow. I am good actually. I just got back into town a few weeks ago actually. Just me.” Usually the question of where her mother was ended up coming out of the conversation at some point so she had just started letting people know off the get go she had made the trip home by herself. Going into those parts of her life, her mother and her relationship, the things that had happened, even only momentarily was a sort of painful she didn’t care to relive over and over so it was better to just kill it from the uptake.
If he didn’t know who she was immediately before as he had played off he did now as his eyes went from pleasantly surprised to downright shocked as he told her how much she had changed. There was the reaction Mia had been expecting, especially from someone like him, or at least someone who had once known her so well it seemed, the old her anyways. “In a good way I hope.
The waitress approached them and set a cup of coffee down in front of Devin with a look of pure wonder and awe in his presence that made Mia grin in her naivety. Forgetting completely that he had offered her dinner until he looked at her letting the waitress know to take her order as well, she scrambled pulling a menu out quickly making a decision. “I will just take the Sicilian sandwich please. I don’t need fries, and a glass of water.” Putting the menu back in its place behind all the condiments she waited til the waitress took her leave again before turning back to her new company for the time being. “ And how about you ? How are you, I haven’t seen you in . . . . . she trailed off for a second trying to actually recount the years in her head. “Too long.”

Devin was pretty surprised seeing Mia again as well, they used to be pretty close before she and her parents moved to New York, “I’m also on my own now, moved out years ago, parents can’t be trusted.” He said; the tone of his voice serious was serious, he wasn’t joking at all, as far as he was concerned no one could be trusted, no except for himself. He knew Mia wouldn’t know why he felt this way, since she wasn’t part of his life when it started falling apart and he wasn’t about to tell her either, no only knew about anything that happened, not yet, and he wasn’t planning on telling anyone either. He stared at Mia for a few seconds, she had really turned into a real goddess, fitting of the personality she had back in elementary school, but then again, that could’ve changed along with her looks.
He was relieved when he realized he got it right, he would’ve looked really stupid if he got it wrong and the expression on her face showed that she was surprised he recognized her, she probably didn’t expect him to, after all, it had been years since they last seen each other. “Good? That would be an understatement, you’re gorgeous.” He said with a smile shamelessly checking her out over the table, not caring that his statement implied that she wasn’t back then, Devin wasn’t the type that thought about the things he said, he just spoke honestly and if someone got offended in the process, too bad. “I’ve changed to, not too much physically, but in every other way… I’m not the little wuss I was back then.” He added with a confident smile.
As he waited for Mia to give her order, he took a huge swig of his coffee, it was hot, burnt his throat as it went down, but woke him up almost instantaneously, turning his to perv. Over the waitress as she walked away, “Way too long.” He agreed, turning his head back toward Mia, nodding in agreement “I’ve been good, finished college, got a decent enough job… I’d say I haven’t done too bad.” He replied nodding in agreement to his own statement “Best of all is I can do my job while extremely hung—over… I think they won’t recognize me if I went to work without one.” He added with a chuckle. “What are your plans for tonight? I’m thinking about heading out of town, finding a decent club somewhere.” He asked with raised eyebrows “You’re more than welcome to join me.” He added.

Curiosity crept into her mind when he mentioned his parents couldn’t be trusted. As far back as Mia could remember she hadn’t known of any real problems within the family, but then again in elementary school and back did you really ever know of any yourself? The compliment Devin gave her after she mentioned hoping his comment had been good made her shake her head a huge smile forming at the corners of her mouth as she played with the wrapped silverware pack in front of her. “Thanks.” Gorgeous wasn’t a word you heard out of someone’s mouth every day but it was more than welcome to her ears as she looked back up at him again finally.
Physically though, as much as he might try to deny it he had changed a lot. The wuss he was before was a lanky boy who kicked soccer balls and thought the idea of girls was still sort of icky. Devin now was something of a sight. His eyes were deeper, it was always one of the first things she noticed in a man and his were strangely beautiful in a way. His body was definitely not lanky anymore and no one who saw him in their right mind would think he was a wuss. His personality was more confident, and the icky girls phase was over, a heart breaker, and a charmer left in it’s place instead.
Devin mentioned finishing college and Mia felt strangely proud. If she hadn’t finished, or even gotten through a handful of classes than she was glad someone she knew had done something with themselves. Looking at him though where they sat now she couldn’t tell where his life had taken him or the career he had chosen. “What are you doing now a days that is keeping you so fit anyways? She asked playfully curious. The Devin she would have thought he would be probably wouldn’t touch the gym with a ten foot pole but she could be ever bit wrong. “ I took some classes at one of the universities up north but it wasn’t for me. I just wasn’t ready for it at the time. For most of the same reasons your co workers would be amazed to see you not hungover in the morning. It wasn’t something she was necessarily embarrassed about, it was who she was and she enjoyed her lifestyle but other people didn’t always see it the same. “ I have no plans for the night actually. So we can see where dinner leads us I guess, maybe I will tag along if it won’t foil your evening of scouting. I don’t make such a good wingman.

Devin didn’t spend much time in the Gym, two or three hours a month maybe, if a bar was one he would probably look like a bodybuilder by now, but he was active in his everyday life, his job entailed a lot of physical work which kept him fit and toned and when he wasn’t working her spent a lot of time outside of the house, partying mostly, which probably would’ve given him a nice big beer belly if it wasn’t for his day job, somehow everything seemed to balance out well in his favor. ”Chasing ladies is a lot of exercise…” he joked with a small chuckle and a small flirtatious wink ”Other than that I guess my job’s physical enough to keep me presentable.” he added seconds later more seriously and when he realized he never told her what he did he also added ”I’m a mechanic.”
”Party animal hey? Welcome to the club.” he said with a smile in response to her reason for not finishing college, ”You’re lucky enough to have the looks that could get you a rich husband, I’m not that lucky.” he said with his best imitation of a stereotypical gay voice and laughing heartily afterward, Devin was so far from gay it wasn’t even funny, the thought of being with a guy grossed him out to the core, he was a bit of a homophobe as well, two girls didn’t bother him in the least though, that he could watch for hours/
”Women make good ‘wingmen’ sometimes, girls are competitive, if one pretends to be interested the others join in, just to prove their hotter.” he said with a smile, he of course spoke out of experience, he had many ways of attracting girls, it was like game to him and he hated loosing. ”But then again, why would I be scouting if the hottest women in town is with me?” he added seconds later, wondering how difficult it would be to get her to give it up to him, he liked a challenge, but somehow it felt strange playing someone who knew him before he became a heartbreaker. He decided he’d just go with it, flirting was harmless and if the opportunity to ‘get with her’ presented himself he would decide then.
It wasn’t long before the waitress came over with their food, serving Devin first before serving Mia, a subtle way of showing her interest in him, she also gave Mia a not so subtle look of dislike before walking away again, which made Devin chuckle ”See what I mean?” he said as he reached for the salt and threw some over the fries that came with his burger ”You just made her way more interested.” he added. After adding some ketchup to his chips as well he took a few and stuffed them into his mouth, not bothering to use a fork, once he swallowed his first mouth full he drank the last of his coffee and put the cup on the table next to theirs, it was his way of showing the waitress he needed another drink and before long she arrived with a beer, knowing exactly what he would’ve wanted and put it down in front of him with a smile after opening it ”Thanks hun.” was all he said as she walked away.
”So, Mia, what do you plan on doing now that you’re back in this god forsaken town?” he asked after licking some ketchup off his lips, looking at her with his eyebrows slightly raised before chomping down on another fry.

Good looking enough he thought to get herself a rich husband. Mia had never thought about it that way, but she really tried to not think about her future as much as possible because the prospect frightened her. The way she lived now made it hard to imagine her living a life any different, rich husband, or true love if there was such a thing. But knowing that Devin thought she had that option made her laugh.
“Oh please,” she said without hesitation after his next comment, “I don’t think I am probably the hottest girl in town unless you have been hiding under a rock for quite some time darling. The plan is to go OUT of town anyways if I remember correctly.” Mia teased playfully as the waitress came back again with their food. The look on her face was rather priceless though, something of twisted anger, maybe even discontent and hatred written on it as she placed Mia’s food in front of her. Had she not wanted a good tip she probably wouldn’t have bothered serving her at all she thought as she watched her walk away agian.
“I made her way more interested so why do you need to make me your wingman? Mission accomplished. You could walk up behind her, place your hand on the small of her back, and whisper two words in her ear and take her in the back room.” It amused her wildly to see the way the girl behaved around him, a bit naïve, perhaps in high school still for all she knew. The question wasn’t why though, he was obviously good looking, it was more the whole being oblivious thing. Mia was the kind to either go after what she wanted or play hard to get, it depended mostly on the situation and the guy. Sometimes you had to play hard to get to keep it interesting or make the chase worth it, more for herself then them.
Lifting her sandwich from the plate Mia carefully took a bite wiping her lips with her fingers removing any remaining debris as she chewed before speaking again. “I came back to get away. I could have picked a million more exciting places I know. She shook her head aimlessly as if reading his thoughts before he spoke them. “I guess my goal now is to find a way to keep myself entertained, have some fun, see what happens. Maybe if I get bored I will move along to the next unsuspecting town and wreak some more havoc.”[/color

Devin merely shook his head at Mia’s technicalities, ”Wow, way to take a compliment…” he said with a chuckle ”And I’ve been here all my life, I know the talent and you definitely good competition for the top spot.” he added matter-of-factly ”And we’ll see about out of town later.”
What Mia said was true, he could probably get the waitress in the sack within seconds ”But where’s the fun in that? he asked raising his hands in question, half of the appeal was having to improvise and work for it, he knew her could have her which made her loose half of her appeal. ”I’m a hunter, don’t like going for wounded pray.” he added, being more honest with Mia that he’s been with anyone in years, he just didn’t feel like playing games with her, sure he’d love to give her a throw, so to speak, but something told him she wouldn’t fall for any of his acts anyway.
Devin fell silent as he lifted his burger from his plate and took a huge bite out of it, it was delicious so he chewed slowly, savoring every bit of it. He listened as Mia spoke of her plans, they didn’t say anything about how she planned on how paying for the fun she planned on having, but he was sure she had her ways of getting what she wanted. ”Wreak havoc eh? You sure we’re not related?” he joked after swallowing his bite, reaching for his beer ”If you need any help with that, I’m just a phone call away, we can be like Bonnie and Clyde, instead of money we’ll steal hearts.” he added before taking a large swig of the Heineken. Most people couldn’t drink and eat at the same time, but it didn’t have an effect on Devin, he could drink a beer with cereal and not feel nauseated by it at all.
Silence fell between them once again as Devin finished the remains of his burger, putting his plate on the opposite table like he had done with the empty cup. ”Ok, so you in or what? But I warn you, we might not make it home at all.” he said after wiping his mouth with a serviette, he had to be at work in the morning, but calling in sick didn’t phase him at all, though he rarely did it, drunk or hung over, either way he almost always showed up for work.

Mia hadn’t mean to take his compliment poorly sometimes it was just something she did. She was complimented frequently and you would think she would react differently after some time but she usually didn’t, sometimes she just said nothing at all or followed it with a simple thank you. It kinda depended on who it came from too. The waitress looked at them from across the room even she noticed as she looked towards the main station where she stood watching them, all Mia could do was shake her head. Devin though was almost her counterpart, his comment about being the hunter and not going after wounded pray reminding her of herself and making her laugh just a bit at how he worded it. “I wouldn’t say she is wounded, perhaps just can’t run fast enough?”
Finishing off her food was quick since she had not ordered anything to accompany her sandwich instead just partaking in conversation and letting Devin eat his own. Stealing hearts would be his job, hers would just be letting go for a while, going someplace new, but she was definitely in. “I am in but I have to change out of this first. I have a bag of things in my car so I can just change in the bathroom here or at a gas station along the way. I am pretty easy. Her shoulders shrugged in impartialism. Her mind wandered though, through the few things she had brought fit to go to a big bar in ,a club really, something she hadn’t found in town yet. She was excited even at the prospect of actually being able to drink and dance, forget everything else, and just be in the moment. “Just let me know the plan.”

Devin was surprised at how she reacted toward his comment, most girl would throw a fit and go on about how she wasn’t an animal and that she should be treated with dignity and respect, not Mia though, he like that. ”Perhaps…” he agreed ”Or perhaps she acts that way because she has no self confidence.” he said nodding in the waitress direction, where she stood staring at the two of them, not caring that she would see him talking about her, her feelings weren’t his problem. ”Which means she’s wounded, or at least that’s how I see it.” he added. Devin didn’t like girls who thought too much of them self, but he didn’t like it when they had no self confidence at all either, he liked a good balance and since he didn’t have any trouble getting the type of girl he wanted he wasn’t going to settle for anything else… He would lower his standards when they needed to be lowered.
When she mentioned having to change first Devin checked out her outfit, it looked perfectly fine to him, but then again, he was a guy, he went for comfort whereas she probably went for something a little more jaw dropping. ”Okay, no problem, you can use my place too if you need to take a shower or something, or I’ll just wait for you here.” he said as he lifted his beer to his lips, taking a sip soon after, ”I’m thinking about checking out the new club that opened up in the neighboring town, I heard it’s great, a bit pricy but I have to use my left over college money on something since my dad won’t take it back.” he said soon after, he didn’t really have much of a plan, he was a go-with-the-flow kind of guy, he didn’t care about later, he only cared about making now as fun as possible.
”Do you want something else to drink or do you want to go get started on that dressing thing?” he asked after taking a few more sips, finishing off his beer. The waitress came by the second he put the empty bottle down and took all the empty dishes, waiting for a new order. ”Anything else?” she asked in a hushed tone, not looking at Mia but at Devin which seemed amused about her obvious jealousy of Mia, if you had to compare the two Mia would win hands down and he knew the shy young waitress knew this too, just wouldn’t admit it.

Devin’s views on the waitress never stopped amusing her, every word coming out of his mouth making it more and more apparent he tried to be a woman eater with some sort of set of morals. Whether he realized it or not was a different story, a man whore though went for the wounded and dead too without second thought. At least there was some sort of standard, Mia figured. It was better than none at all, better than his life revolving around it for more than just a fun time.
A shower though, that sounded nice. Although Mia had jumped into the water before leaving the house a while before she hadn’t actually had the opportunity to enjoy it, to wash herself completely clean, more of a rinse. That begged the next question though, where he lived. Knowing from what he said earlier he wasn’t on such fantastic terms with his parents she could assume it wasn’t with them anymore, so she wouldn’t have to tip toe around at least avoiding too much notice or questioning.
The waitress approached them again ignoring Mia completely while she tried her hardest not to laugh out loud. Making sure there was nothing else they needed she made sure to give Devin a nod letting him know there was nothing before he sent her on her way again. “I am good I think. I would love a shower though if you don’t mind? I would go to my place but I still haven’t found one yet.” She hadn’t found one because she didn’t have any money, not usually anyways unless she rummaged it up from somewhere. Money she didn’t have because she didn’t have a job, most people couldn’t go into work hung over all the time like Devin and get away with it. That was her life though and she wasn’t ready to give it up just yet, not ever for a job, not when she seemed to get by with what she was doing.

”In that case…” he started turning his gaze from Mia to the waitress as he took his wallet out of his front pocket, taking out a few bills for their meal and some for tip, he didn’t tip exceptionally well, but gave her enough to not piss her off entirely ”There you go Hun, thanks for everything.” he said handing them to her, she in turn smiled and took them, lingered for a while before walking off with an arm full of dished ”I’m glad I don’t have her job.” he stated as he shifted in his chair, putting his wallet back into his pocket. Money wasn’t something that Devin had a lot off, not his own anyway, the money he made working was enough to live on though, including party expenses, which he had more off than any other expense, he was a little short this month though, he went a little too crazy in the first week and spent almost everything he had put aside for entertainment, instead of staying home he was going to dip into his college fund, which still had thousands dollars in which he hadn’t touched since finishing college, his father didn’t want it back so he might as well spend some of it on something, he wasn’t going to use it to open his own shop though, he would pave his own way, he didn’t want to feel indebted to his father in anyway, the money he spent tonight he’d put back in the account once he got his bonus at the end of the year.
”Yeah it’s no problem, let’s get to it then.” he said as he stood up from his seat and slowly made his way toward the exit, waiting for Mia to pass him once he reached the door, since she would have to get some clothes first, unless she was taking her own car, which would be a total waste of gas ”We taking my car? I’ll drop you off here when we get back.” which Mia replied to with a nod. He followed her to her car, watched her take her bag out and lock it up again, before leading her to his. Devin wasn’t known for being a gentleman, he found that most girls liked it when trying to get in their pants, but he wasn’t really trying with Mia, not yet anyway, so he didn’t open her door for her, instead he just unlocked it from the inside once he got in the car.
The drive to his apartment was short and silent since his music was on just loud enough to avoid some sort of conversation, he liked silence when he drove, well at least when he was sober. Once his car was parked in the parking lot of his apartment building he switched off the radio and got out, waited for Mia to get her bag before climbing the stairs up to the second floor, which was the one his apartment was on. The apartment wasn’t fancy at all, but not too run down either, they were perfectly modest little two bedroom apartments, nothing too grand but enough for a bachelor ”Well, the shower’s back there, I’ll be here, having a cold one before we hit the road.” he said after unlocking the door and opening it, walking in seconds later, straight to the fridge which were filled with nothing but beer and red bull. Once he got his beer he went back to the living area, which were basically part of the kitchen since this part of the apartment was open-planned, and dropped down on the coach.

Mia waited patiently as Devin pulled his wallet out to pay before following his cue as she stood from their table and led him outside to where she had parked her car. “Taking your car sounds good.” Unlocking the door she reached in the back seat like she had done so many times before finding exactly what it was she was looking for without much problem and taking the old things out of her bag and stuffing the new ones in. Again climbing back out she shut the door behind her locking it and giving Devin a ready nod of the head letting him know she was ready to go.
Following him back to his own car Mia climbed in without question not even thinking twice that he hadn’t done the chivalrous thing in opening the door for her, she was just that used to doing things on her own. Most the men she met weren’t usually that kind of guy anyways. The car was in almost immaculate condition she figured being a part of who he was, his career, it sort of came naturally. He had the resources to take care of it, he had spent his money on it, why not? The car finally pulling away from the café she watched out the window as they drove only a few blocks from where they had been, taking mere minutes to get from one part of town to the next as they pulled into his apartment complex.
Walking into the apartment wasn’t much of a surprise to Mia. The walls were rather bare, the counters empty, and the furniture just enough to fill empty space and nothing more. A bachelor pad that was for sure. Devin closed the door behind them and pointed her in the direction of the bathroom assuring her of his presence and plans for the time she was away opening the fridge and pulling a beer from inside. “Starting the party early? She questioned a bit smartly as she disappeared into the bathroom with her bag shutting the door silently closed behind her.
This time Mia allowed herself to take her time in the shower letting the water run over her skin, as hot as she could allow, leaning against the tiled wall taking the heat in. Once she let the relaxation process of her shower end she chose one of the bottles sitting on the ledge opening it up and borrowing some of his man scented wash and shampoo. It smelt strangly good as she ran it over her body, she usually didn’t care for the smells but this one was different and shrugging it off she finished turning the water off and emerging from inside once more.
Opening the door slowly Mia found her way back into where Devin still was lounging on the couch, unmoved, unchanged. The shower had felt good, she was clean, put together, and in a different outfit which had been her main requirement for the outing they were going on. More than all that, she was ready for a good time. “Ready.” She said throwing her bag down on the floor near one of the walls of the living room, she would either end up bringing it with her or leaving it there and at the moment she wasn’t sure of the entire plan. “Are you changing or anything? Stupid question really, if he had been changing surely he would have done it while she was showering. Likely he was just waiting on her.

”Party time is all the time.” he said loudly as he watched Mia disappear around the corner, in his case it was true, barely a day went by without Devin having at least one beer, some people would think of someone like that as an alcoholic, but he wasn’t, not yet anyway.
Devin drank his beer as he patiently waited for Mia to reappear, he wasn’t really in any rush and was a pretty patient guy most of the time. Once he got a little bored, which was about fifteen minutes later he got up and turned on the radio, which was tuned into a local radio station, since all the CD’s he owned were in his car. He loved pretty much any kind of music, but wasn’t much of a solo dancer, usually he’d be sitting at the bar watching everyone else dance until he eyed someone worth asking to dance with him, which usually just consisted of him bobbing and swaying to the beat, nothing too out there, but it didn’t look too dumb either, at least no one ever told him it did. The song currently playing were one of those they overplayed in clubs everywhere and was a little girly, but he was used to it, so used to it in fact that he started singing along ”This place’s ‘bout to bloooow, oh-oh-oh oooh-oooh-oooh.” and chuckled a bit, amused by his own silliness as he headed back to the fridge for another beer before sitting back down on the couch.
Just as he opened his next beer Mia reappeared and Announced that she was ready to go, also asking if he planned on putting something else on before they went. Devin’s jaw dropped slightly, beer slipping out of his grip as it did. ”Shit….” he said as most of the beer spilled over his shirt, missing his jacket by only an inch. ”I guess I’ll have to know.” he said as he put the bottle down on the coffee table in front of him before getting up. With a few quick movements he took off his jackets, dropped it one the coach, followed by his shirt shortly after. ”Now I’m going to smell like a bar before we even get to one.” he added, wiping some of his abs and chest.
He passed Mia a few seconds later, heading to bathroom to clean up a bit, using a wet cloth to remove the residue of beer and spraying a bit of his deodorant, hoping that it would get rid of most of the odor, the smell of beer wasn’t exactly appealing to any girl he knew. Once he was done he grabbed a white shirt, exactly the same as the one he was wearing from his room and joined Mia in the living room once again with shirt in hand. ”I’m not usually that clumsy.” he said as he took the dirty shirt from the couch, chucking it in a corner. ”You look amazing by the way.” he added shortly after, turning his gaze back to her, his lips curving into a crooked smile.
